Survey Department Openings

Our surveying department focuses on development and land planning of commercial, residential, and mixed-use projects throughout San Diego and Imperial Counties.

Party Chief

Hale Engineering is seeking a Party Chief with over 5 years’ experience in land development in the San Diego and the Imperial County region. Our survey department is expanding quickly, and we need an experienced individual who can jump right in and lead a small crew.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience
  • Experience with GPS & Robotic Total Stations required; Leica preferred
  • Valid CA driver’s license with a clean record
  • Ability to obtain DBIDS, Rapid Gate, and/or TWIC IDs
  • Able to perform construction staking/calculations
  • Knowledge and experience with Topographic/ALTA Surveys
  • Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D
  • Strong communication skills
  • Basic computer skills
  • Team player

Responsibilities

  • Provide topographic and boundary surveying and construction staking
  • Will lead a small crew, but on rare occasions will need to work alone.
  • Work effectively and maintain a good attitude with clients and field and office teams
  • Will be able to take over the responsibility of training/mentoring field technicians
  • Perform basic office functions, including downloading and processing field data

Land Surveyor

Hale Engineering is seeking a Land Surveyor with over 5 years’ experience in private land development in the San Diego region. Our ideal individual is a licensed surveyor looking to gain more responsibility and growth within a company with the intent of moving into a management position.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of work experience in land surveying
  • P.L.S. required, or in process of obtaining
  • Able to obtain DBIDS, Rapid Gate, and/or TWIC IDs
  • Possess excellent organization, communication, and project management skills
  • Experience reviewing deeds and title documents and performing property boundary analysis and calculations
  • Experience in performing easement, highway, street right-of-way research, calculations, and mapping
  • Experience with developing proposals and coordination with clients
  • Ability to work effectively with peers, superiors, team members, clients, and general contractors
  • Working knowledge and experience setting up and operating robotic total stations, data collectors, and GPS-RTK equipment; Leica preferred, but will train
  • Knowledge of Land Surveyor’s Act, Subdivision Map Act, applicable state and local agency regulations governing land surveying
  • Demonstrated proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D software
  • Must have active CA Driver’s license with a clean driving record

Responsibilities

  • Help coordinate work with the engineering staff and other outside consultants
  • Oversee the work of survey technicians to ensure high standards are met
  • Maintain contact with clients as needed to answer questions and resolve issues
  • Review work on ALTA/NSPS Land Title Surveys, Boundary and Topographic Surveys, Subdivision Maps, LLA’s, Legal Descriptions, GPS, Construction, as well as other survey products
  • Conduct research, field, and office work pertaining to the profession
  • Supervise, participate in, and coordinate surveying projects and goal establishment.
  • Use GPS and survey equipment to collect and validate data, process that data, and create reports
  • Calculate and verify computations, and create and verify sketches and CAD drawings
  • Review plans, plats, and legal documents to appropriately plan and schedule work
  • Possibility of working as field surveyor/party chief on a very limited basis

Surveying Staff Engineer

Hale Engineering and Surveying, Inc. is seeking a Surveying Staff Engineer with over 3 years’ experience in land surveying. Our ideal individual will have knowledge of land surveying and be able to work alongside our Senior Land Surveyor to help with all surveying office work. The position must also be willing to help the surveying crews in the field if needed.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D software

Project Engineer

Hale Engineering is seeking a Project Engineer. You will be collaborating on a multitude of land development projects with our Project Managers and your future civil engineer colleagues. We are looking for an individual who is a team player, has strong communication skills, and an eagerness to learn.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering with at least 3 years’ experience
  • Professional Engineering (P.E.) license required
  • Proficient knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D
  • Experience with Microsoft Office and Excel
  • Strong communication and problem solving skills
  • Ability to work independently

Responsibilities

  • Design sewer, storm drain, and water pipe networks including structures and pipe sizes
  • Design curb and gutter, street corridors, and finished surfaces
  • Design sidewalks, curb ramps, and parking lots per ADA Standards
  • Prepare Grading Plans, Improvement Plans, and Traffic Control Plans per City and County standards
  • Prepare Drainages Studies, Water Quality Technical Reports (WQTR)/Storm Water Quality Management Plan (SWQMP) reports, and Water Pollution Control Plans (WPCP)/Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) reports for Priority and Standard projects per City, County, and State standards
  • Prepare Bond Estimates, Storm Water Management and Discharge Control Maintenance Agreements (SWMDCMA), Encroachment Maintenance and Removal Agreements (EMRA), and Storm Water Applicability Checklists
  • Effectively communicate and coordinate with clients, City/County departments, contractors, and other consultants on project via email, phone, and within meetings.
